Self-conceited? Then Remember…

Muhammad Ibn Idrees ash-Shafi’ee said:

“If you fear falling into conceit through your deeds, then remember whose pleasure you seek (i.e. Allaah), what kind of grace you are looking for, and what kind of punishment you are afraid of.  So, if you remember all these, your (pious) deeds will look small in your eyes.

[as-Siyar 8/439]

قال الشافعي ؛

‏إذا خفت علے عملك العُجب، فاذكر رضۍ من تطلب، وفي أي نعيم ترغب، ومن أي عقاب ترهب ، فمن فكر في ذلك صغر عنده عمله.

‏[السير٤٣٩/٨]
