Shaykh al-Islaam ibn Taymiyyah said concerning the Speech of Allaah, The Exalted: {We feed you only for the countenance of Allaah. We wish not from you reward or gratitude [Soorah al-Insaan (76): 9]} – Whoever seeks from the poor ones supplication or praise has excluded himself from this verse.

[Majmoo’ al-Fataawa 11/111]
