Do Not Say: You Donkey, Dog, Pig, Etc.

November 25, 2014 § 1 Comment

Sa’eed ibn al-Musayyab rahimahullaah said: Do not say to your companion: “O you donkey, O you dog, O you pig.” That person will say to you on the Day of Resurrection: “Do you see that I have been created (by Allaah) as a dog, or a donkey or a pig?”

— [Musannaf ibn Abee Shaybah (5/282)]

And al-Imaam an-Nawawee rahimahullaah said: From the blameworthy terms that are used in a person’s speech to the one with whom is arguing is that he says: “O you donkey, O you goat, O you dog, and terms like similar to that.” So this is reprehensible from two perspectives: One of them two: It is a lie. And the other: It is an injury (i.e. a hurtful thing to say to someone).

— [al-Adhkaar, p. 365]
