When you say: Astaghfirullaah

Ash-Shaykh ibn Uthaymeen rahimahullaah: When you say “Astaghfirullaah – I seek forgiveness from Allaah” then you are asking for two things: 1) To hide the sin 2) Overlooking the sin so that Allaah does not punish for it. — [Al-Fataawa (16-87)]

قال الشيخ ابن عثيمين: إذا قلت أستغفر الله فأنت تسأل الله شيئين: ١- ستر الذنب. ٢- التجاوز عنه بحيث لا يعاقبك الله عليه.
