Travelling on ‘Eid

July 28, 2014 § Leave a comment

Many of the People of Knowledge considered it mustahhab (recommended) for the Imaam and other than him, when going out to the `Eid  prayer to go in one route and return (after salaah) in another (i.e. to take a different path back). And it is the statement of Maalik, ath-Thawree, ash-Shafi’ee and Ahmad.¹

Narrated Jaabir bin `Abdullaah radhiAllaahu anh: On the Day of `Eid the Prophet (salAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) used to return taking a different path.²

Description of the wudhoo of the Prophet

March 18, 2014 § 1 Comment

Description of the wudhoo of the Nabee salAllaahu alayhi wa sallam by Shaykh Muhammad Ramzaan:

Summary of the main points:

The Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “He who performs the Wudhoo’ perfectly, his sins will depart from his body, even from under his nails.” Narrated by Muslim

– Say Bismillah when beginning wudhoo, we do not say bismillah ar-Rahmaan ar-Raheem. If you forget to say bismillah, you say so when you remember.

– When washing the hands the shaykh talked about takhleel which means to pass the fingers of one hand through the fingers of the other hand to ensure water has reached the spaces in between, and also washing the baraajim (the finger joints – i.e. the knuckles) and it is from the sunan of the fitrah to do so.

– Then the shaykh specified rinsing the mouth and washing the nose by putting in water and then blowing it out. He stressed that you do it in one go; putting the water in with the right hand and blowing out using the left hand. (The left hand is usually used for such tasks like cleaning oneself).

– The face is to be washed: it starts from the hairline, and the sides up to the ears, to the bottom of chin. If your beard is big and lengthy, then go between it with the wet fingers. But if it’s light then wash it the water.

– Washing the arms begins from the tip of the fingers to the elbow joint area, not going beyond that.

– You do this how many times? Thrice. But what about if you wash your hands thrice, then rinse the nose twice, and wash the face once? Laa ba’s – it is not an issue. Once is the least and it is the obligatory amount. He said that if you do above three repetitions this is dhulm, anything beyond is not from the way of the Messenger alayhi salaatu was salaam. You can do once, twice, thrice – not more.

– But when wiping the head and then the ears, it is done once only. Notice the shaykh said مسح which is wiping, not washing like you would do for the rest of the limbs in wudhoo. You wipe by starting at the front of hairline and then moving your hands all the way to the end of your head, then coming back to the front. Next you insert the index finger into the ear and with the thumb finger (the ibhaam) you wipe the back of your ear.

Some of the people wipe the head by just touching the front of their head with water, this is not proper wudhoo! The Shaykh said: O Muslim, fear Allaah, and wipe completely like the Messenger salAllaahu alayhi was-sallam did.

– Lastly the feet, again here you’d do takhleel: by using the pinky finger on the left hand. And we must ensure not to miss out on washing the ankles as there’s a hadeeth that says: Waylun lil a’qaabi min-an-naar. Translates as: Save the ankles from the fire. Hadeeth is saheeh narrated in al-Bukhaaree.

– You finish off by saying : ‘Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallaahu Wahdahu la sharika Lahu, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa Rasooluhu (I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allaah Alone, Who has no partners and that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger), And in the narration in At- Tirmidhee, it is added: “Allahummaj-‘alni minat-tawwabina, waj-‘alni minal-mutatahhirin (O Allah make me among those who repent and purify themselves

*We must take precaution to do our wudhoo correctly as our salah is not valid without proper wudhoo!

Leaving Something for the Sake of Allaah

March 6, 2014 § 1 Comment

The beloved Shaykh ibn Uthaymeen rahimahullaah, said in his explanation of the hadeeth of Sa’ad bin Abi Waqqaas radhiAllaahu anh (#6) in Riyaadh as-Saaliheen by Abu Zakariyyah an-Nawawee rahimahullaah:

..The second affair: That no one from amongst them would return to Makkah after they had left it migrating to Allaah and His Messenger. Because if you leave a land migrating to Allaah and His Messenger (salAllaahu alayhi wasallam) then it is like the wealth that you gave in charity, it is not possible that you can take it back.

And in a similar fashion, everything that the person leaves for the sake of Allaah, then it is not possible that they return to it.

And with this; many of the people have been given success to remove the televisions from their homes thus making repentance to Allaah and placing themselves far away from it and the evil that it contains; so they say, ‘is it now possible for us to return the television to our homes?’ We say, no; after you have removed it for the sake of Allaah do not return it.

Because if the person abandons something for the sake of Allaah and makes hijrah from something for the sake of Allaah, he does not return to it.

And for this reason the Messenger ( alayhi as-salaatu wasallam) asked his Lord to allow his companions to continue in their hijrah.

Trimming The Nails

November 27, 2013 § 1 Comment

Shaykh ibn Uthaymeen: The nails should not be left uncut/untrimmed above forty days, regardless of whether the nails are clean or dirty. i.e. they must be cut.

This is because the Prophet salAllaahu alayhi wa sallam specified a time for the nails to be cut, as well as the trimming of the moustache, shaving the pubic hair, and plucking the armpit hair; they are not to be left for over forty days. And the best of all guidance is the guidance of Muhammad salAllaahu alayhi wa sallam.

Rinsing The Mouth After Consuming Milk

The Messenger of Allaah (salAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “When you drink milk then rinse (your mouth) because indeed, it contains fat.”

Do You Desire To Die Upon The Fitrah?

February 28, 2013 § Leave a comment

Narrated Al-Baraa bin `Aazib: The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said to me, “Whenever you go to your place of sleep, then perform ablution like that for the prayer, then lie on your right side, then say:

Then if you die on that very night then you are upon the fitrah (i.e. pure natural Monotheism, the religion of Islaam). Let the aforesaid words be your last utterance (before sleep).

I repeated it before the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) and when I reached “O Allaah, I believe in Your Book which You have revealed.” I said, “Wa Rasoolika (and Your Messenger).” The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said, “No, (but say): Your Nabee/Prophet whom You have sent.”

Transliteration of the supplication: Allaahumma aslamtu wajhi ilaika, wa faw-wadhtu amri ilaika, wa alja’tu dhahri ilaika raghbatan wa rahbatan ilaika. Laa malja’a wa la manjaa minka illa ilaika. Allaahumma aamantu bi-kitaabikal-ladhi anzalta wa bi-nabiyyikal-ladhi arsalta.

Interpretation of the supplication: O Allaah, I surrender to You and entrust all my affairs to You and depend upon You for Your Blessings both with hope and fear of You. There is no fleeing from You, and there is no place of protection and safety except with You. O Allaah, I believe in Your Book which You have revealed and in Your Prophet whom You have sent).

The Lover Obeys His Beloved

December 5, 2012 § Leave a comment

Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan: “… And whoever loves the Messenger (salAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), (as a result) he follows him. So who ever claims to love him (‘alayhi salaatu was-salaam) and (then) he opposes him in regards to that which he came with, then he obeys other than him from the deviated ones, and the innovators, and the foolish ones, so he enlivens the innovation and leaves off the Sunan, then he is a liar in his claim that he loves the Messenger (salAllaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) because the one who loves obeys the one who is beloved to him.
