Answer: (The one who only looks) is not considered as someone who is reciting, and nor does he obtain the merit of recitation, except if  he actually recites the Qur’aan.

al-‘Allaamah Abu Abdullaah Muhammad ibn Saalih ibn Uthaymeen rahimahullaah: “Some of the people say: ‘I will marry a woman who is not religious, perhaphs Allaah will guide her at my hands.’ And we say: ‘We are not entrusted with what will happen in the future. As for the future, we do not know about it. It may be that you marry her while desiring that Allaah will guide her in your hands, however, it may be that she may change your state to what she is upon, therefore becoming destroyed by her hands.'”

The Intelligent One

Sufyaan bin ‘Uyaynah (d.198 A.H.) rahimahullaah: The intelligent one is not the one who knows the truth and the evil. Rather, the intelligent one is the one who knows the truth and follows it and knows the evil and stays away from it.
